Watch-Keeping Mate
THE PROPOSED CHANGES TO THE TRANSPORT CANADA REGULATIONS
ARE EXPECTED TO COME INTO EFFECT IN EITHER 2005 OR 2006.
SEA-SERVICE CHANGES WILL COME INTO EFFECT AT THAT TIME.
THE PROPOSAL STATES CERTIFICATES ISSUED PRIOR TO THE PROPOSED CHANGES WILL
BE EXCHANGED FOR THE NEW CERTIFICATE WITHOUT UPGRADE.
Register now and complete your certificate before the changes come into effect.
Transport Canada will be changing the regulations making it harder to sit for the Watch-Keeping Mates Certificate (Restricted) and people wanting to get this ticket should do so now.
Upgrading the following certificates of competency:
- Watch-Keeping Mates
- Master 350 Tonnes
- Fishing Master 3
- Fishing Master 2
Course Modules will include:
- 011/012 - Communications
- 041 Chartwork & Navigation
- 061 Navigational Safety
- SIM 1 Navigating Instruments
- SIM 2 Chartwork & Pilotage (by arrangement)
- 073 Meteorology
- 090/099 Ship Management
- 110/111 Stability
- 151/157 General Ship Knowledge
- 160 Orals Prep
Modules to be offered may be taken at any time and will be valid for 60
months from completion.
The Stability and Meteorology requirements of the Watch-Keeping certificate
are exceeded by the Stability 110 and Meteorology 073 modules which will
be taught.
Completion of these modules may be applied towards the:
- Watch-Keeping Mate (Restricted)
- Fishing Master 2
- Master 350 tonne
The only additional requirement will be that a Transport Canada oral examination, 160 General Seamanship will be required for each certificate applied for.
